Role Description

The Field Services Install Technician is a hands-on, customer-facing field role responsible for installing and mounting satellite and network infrastructure, completing structured cabling runs, and documenting high-quality work at customer sites. This role supports RSI customer deployments through safe, accurate, and professional onsite installation work.

    • Reports to: COO
    • Status: Full-time, hourly; starting pay $25.00 per hour
    • Work Setting: Customer sites / field-based; regional travel as assigned

Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Install, mount, align, secure, and test satellite equipment and related components according to project scope, manufacturer guidance, and site requirements.
    • Install and deploy network equipment, including wireless access points, switches, routers, patch panels, and related devices.
    • Assemble, mount, organize, and dress network cabinets and wall-mounted enclosures; perform rack-and-stack work, patching, labeling, and cable management.
    • Run, terminate, label, test, and document structured cabling, including copper Ethernet cabling and low-voltage pathways.
    • Use ladders, lifts, hand tools, power tools, cable testers, and other installation equipment safely and correctly.
    • Read and follow scopes of work, floor plans, diagrams, equipment lists, installation checklists, and instructions from project or engineering personnel.
    • Perform basic connectivity checks and first-level troubleshooting of installed network devices, cabling, power, and mounting hardware.
    • Set up workstations and peripherals; verify computer hardware functionality and support local network performance.
    • Capture before-and-after photographs and maintain accurate records of installed equipment, cable labels, test results, site conditions, and completed work.
    • Communicate professionally with customers, project coordinators, engineers, and onsite personnel; promptly report blockers, damage, safety concerns, and scope changes.
    • Maintain a clean, organized work area; protect customer property and company or client equipment.
    • Complete assigned tickets, time entries, checklists, and closeout documentation accurately and on time.
    • Support evening, weekend, overnight, or out-of-town installations when project schedules require, and perform other related field services duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Hands-on experience mounting equipment and using common construction and low-voltage installation tools.
    • Working knowledge of structured cabling practices, including routing, termination, labeling, testing, dressing, and basic troubleshooting
    • Basic understanding of LAN/WAN concepts, Ethernet, wireless networking, switches, access points, patch panels, and network cabinets.
    • Ability to identify common building materials and select appropriate mounting hardware and installation methods.
    • Ability to follow written instructions, diagrams, and checklists with strong attention to detail and workmanship.
    • Strong problem-solving judgment, professional customer service, and clear verbal and written communication.
    • Dependable, punctual, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a two-person field team.

Required Education and Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • 3 or more years of related field installation, low-voltage cabling, satellite, telecommunications, construction, or IT hardware experience preferred.
    • Relevant training or certifications, such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, BICSI coursework, lift certification, OSHA safety training, or manufacturer installation training, are beneficial.

Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, and work in confined or elevated areas for extended periods.
    • Ability to climb and work from ladders or approved lifts and safely use hand and power tools.
    • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and site conditions while following required safety practices.

Other Requirements:

    • Must provide and maintain standard hand tools appropriate for network, low-voltage, mounting, and general field installation work.
    • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance.
    • Ability to travel to customer sites and transport tools and smaller project materials as assigned.
    • Use required personal protective equipment and comply with company, customer, manufacturer, and site safety rules.
    • Ability to pass job-related background checks and drug screening required by company policy or customer contract.
    • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

    • Quality: Installations are straight, level, secure, labeled, tested, and completed to the approved scope.
    • Safety: Work is performed without shortcuts and in compliance with applicable safety requirements.
    • Documentation: Photos, test results, ticket notes, time entries, and closeout records are complete and accurate.
    • Customer Experience: Communication is responsive, courteous, and professional throughout the visit.
    • Accountability: The technician arrives prepared, protects equipment and property, and promptly escalates issues.

Compensation and Employment Statement:

Starting pay: $25.00 per hour. Final compensation and continued employment are subject to applicable wage-and-hour laws, company policies, experience, qualifications, work location, and business needs.
